From a customer e-mail:
I am new to all of this. What am I supposed to be wearing under the wig?
This is a GREAT question! The answer is: that is almost entirely up to you and will require a little experimentation for you to decide what works best for you.
Here are some general rules of thumb . . .
- Do you have a lot of biohair? If yes, then you’ll probably want a fishnet cap under your wig.
- Do you have short biohair that you need to keep compressed under your cap? If yes, then you’ll probably want a nylon cap under your wig. This is the most popular kind of wig cap for most women.
- Do you have little to no biohair and / or a sensitive scalp? If yes, then you may want to consider a cotton wig liner. These are ideal for folks with little to no biohair and issues with scalp discomfort and irritation.
- Another option: nothing at all. Plenty of women opt to go au naturel under their wigs. This works best under open-capped wigs, and is often done by women with short biohair, or those with longer hair constrained by bobby pins.
Always bear in mind that what is comfortable for one woman might feel like a sweaty hot mess to another. You will need to play around with it a little to find out what works best for you. The great news is that these products tend to be pretty inexpensive, so it’s an experiment that won’t break the bank, and could lead to greater comfort in the long run. Good times! :)
