"Hi, Cysterwigs team - I'm wondering how I can safely and environmentally-responsibly dispose of a synthetic wig that has reached the end of its useful life. I haven't seen any threads online on the topic, but if anyone knows, I know it will be you all. Any ideas on how to recycle (or at least not pollute)? Thanks in advance for your thoughts!"
This has been a topic that has often come up in the wig community, but unfortunately, there is virtually no information on how to dispose of a wig in an eco-friendly manner. What we generally advise is donating the wig. This can be to a cancer society, your hospital or local small theater, GoodWill, or even a daycare center for kids to use to play dress-up with.
I once brought a wig from a yard sale to go with a Halloween outfit and, after I washed it, of course, it was a pretty nice looking wig. Not great for everyday wear but very nice for certain occasions.
I completely understand not wanting to throw a wig away, especially when they could still be useful. Donating it is our best advice, but you could also try to sell it. You never know what use someone could have for it.
